Red & the Red Hots is a band that plays high-energy swing music for
dancing, concerts and all around good times. The band was formed by Red
Young who plays piano, is the lead vocalist and also does the arranging,
writing and producing. It was formed in Texas in 1985 and played around
400 engagements in the Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana area until 1988. At
that time Red returned to Los Angeles and formed associations with people
he still works with till this day. The band has a variety of folks we work
with, but the band personnel includes at various times Cassie
Miller, Dina
Bennett, Rebecca Kyler Downs,
or Jennifer Griffin and recently Silvie
Rider (vocals), Keith Fiddmont or Lon
Price (saxophones), Brian
Swartz or Scott Steen (trumpet),
Kenny Sara, Doug Mathews or John Bryant (drums), Randy Landas, Drew Phelps
or Jonathan Fisher (bass) and on occasion three additional horn players
which includes a trumpet, alto and bari sax player including some of the
best in Los Angeles: John Thomas, Lee Thornburg, Rick Rossi, Matt Zebley,
Zane Musa, Greg Smith and occasional others. We vary the size of the band
to the engagement and sometimes play as small as 5 pieces or as many as
15. We worked regularly in the Los Angeles area until 2003 at The
World Famous Derby in Hollywood at the corner of Los Feliz and Hillhurst
(feathured in the movie Swingers) and Disneyland in Anaheim. Other venues
we have played in the Southern California area are the Hollywood Athletic
Club, The Palace, the Coconut Club, the Rhino Room and many others. We also
travel over the country and have been known to play in San Diego, San Francisco,
Reno, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Tucson, Seattle, Portland, Denver, Austin, Houston,
San Antonio, Ft Worth, Dallas, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Memphis, Atlanta and
have had many calls for many places further than this which we will visit
throughout this year. Check the calendar to see when we will be in your
area. The current vocalist for the Red Hots is Silvie
Rider, a very appealing singer from Switzerland who sings in many
languages and is a very welcome addition to the sound, look and feel of
Red and the Red Hots.
